Currently, there are 2 colt starting/re-starting sessions per year.  These sessions are designed for Kathleen to spend intensive time with each horse during a 1-3 week period. Your horse will live with Kathleen for the duration of the session and be handled daily, in individual and/or group sessions with the other horses as appropriate.

  The colt start or young horse horse sessions consists of 20-40 hours of time with the student's horse.  This time is spent teaching proper movement of hind and front end, correct leading and tying, saddling and bridling, trailer loading, transitions, and much more.  Colt starting is specifically for the horse and teaches the horse a solid foundation.  Yearlings and weanlings are also welcome at these session. Their education will be limited to accomodate their young age and size. (No mounted work will be done.)

Difficult or problem horses will have a customized program to address their specific issues.

Students are encouraged to ask questions and be involved about their horse's progress, but the colt start does not include teaching the owner to start their own horse.  This is for the safety of the horses and riders.  The owners will receive regular progress reports throughout the colt start and a written log of their horse's daily lessons.

   40 Hours Training $1500

Booking Policies

A non-refundable deposit of 50% is required to reserve a spot for your horse in the colt/problem horse sessions.  The balance of the fee plus 50% of board fees is due 30 days prior to the start date of the session. In the event an owner needs to cancel, a portion of the fees paid to date will be credited towards another class, depending on the timing and/or if a replacement horse can fill the slot. Board deposits will be refunded.

If you would like to schedule a private colt starting session, a deposit of 50% of the total price is required up front when dates are set on the calendar.  In the event the session is cancelled within 45 days of the start date, a $500/per week booking fee will be charged. The entire deposit becomes non-refundable within 30 days of the start date.

Special circumstances will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
